04 Mar | Team Selection – 2014 World Indoor Championships

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 4th March 2014, – Two of the top athletes from St. Kitts and Nevis will this weekend represent their country at the 15th IAAF World Indoor Championships, taking place in Poland.

Those getting the nod of the Selection Committee of the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association, SKNAAA, were Jason Rogers and Brijesh Lawrence, who will both compete in the 60m.

The biannual championships will be held in the city of Sopot, from Friday 7th – Sunday 9th March 2014.

Rogers, the defending NACAC Under 23 100m Champion and Record Holder, made his indoor debut in 2013. Since then, he has been making steady progress in the men’s 60m and is currently ranked at number (10) ten in the world for 2014.

Lawrence is no stranger to the indoor circuit as he represented his college on multiple occasions. His accolade includes: NAIA National Champion (6 times), Doane College Record Holder in the 55m, 60m, 100m, 200m and 4X100m and (11) –Time All American.

Both Rogers and Lawrence were members of the Male 4X100m Relay Team, that won bronze and silver respectively at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and 2011 PanAmerican Games.

Rogers and Lawrence are expected to arrive in Sopot on Wednesday 5th March 2014.

The SKNAAA Executive Committee extends congratulations to Rogers and Lawrence on their selection.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young sprinter from Nevis will be heading off to train with the likes of Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake in Jamaica at the Racers Track Club.

 

Bolt – who is the Olympic champion in the 100m and 200m – and Blake – who is a former World Champion in the 100m – train at the club under coach Glen Mills. Read More

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NATIONAL Record Holder in the javelin throw Adrian Williams, is off to Trinidad and Tobago where he is expected to undergo a five-month training programme. He would be working alongside Olympic Javelin Champion Keshorn Walcott.

 

The 18-year-old is the current CARIFTA Bronze Medalist and holds the National Record  at 68.41 meters in the event. Read More

All Athletes are hereby reminded of Development Meet #5 which is the second Development Meet at the Silver Jubilee Athletic Stadium scheduled for Sunday 16th February 2014, starting at 2:00pm sharp.

The SKNAAA encourages all athletes, clubs, schools, etc to participate in this Development Meet. Kindly be further informed that transportation will be provided by the Ministry of Educations School Buses. Please be advised that Bus No. 1 will depart from Parson’s Village at 12:30pm via Sandy Point, bus #2 will also depart from Parson’s Village via Cayon, while bus No. 2 will depart from the Basseterre Ferry Terminal at 12:30 p.m.

Registration for this mean will be done ONLY through the headcount system. Registration closes at 12:00am, Sunday 16th February 2014.

Kindly be further informed that transportation will be provided by the Ministry of Educations School Buses. Please be advised that Bus No. 1 will depart from Parson’s Village at 12:30pm via Sandy Point, while bus No. 2 will depart from the Basseterre Ferry Terminal at 12:30 p.m.

All Athletes are hereby reminded of Development Meet #3 scheduled for Sunday 2nd February, 2014 at the Saddlers Playing Field, starting at 2:00pm sharp.

The SKNAAA encourages all athletes, clubs, schools, etc to participate in this Development Meet.

Kindly be further informed that transportation will be provided by the Ministry of Educations School Buses. Please be advised that Bus No. 1 will depart from Boyds Village traveling to Saddlers via Basseterre and Cayon at 12:30pm, while bus No. 2 will depart from Verchilds via Sandy Point at 12:30 p.m.

Registration for this meet will be done at the competition venue.

Kindly be guided accordingly.

All Athletes are hereby reminded of the S.L Horsfords Pace Setters Track Club Relay Festival, scheduled for Sunday 26th January, 2014 at the Verchilds Playing Ground, starting at 2:00pm sharp.

The SKNAAA encourages all athletes, clubs, schools, etc to participate in this Relay Fest.

Kindly be further informed that transportation will be provided by the Ministry of Educations School Buses. Please be advised that Bus No. 1 will depart from the SOL gas station at the top of Fort Street at 1:00 p.m, while bus No. 2 should depart from Parson at 1:00 p.m. The athletes are to be transported to the Sandy Point Recreation Ground.

All competing teams must be registered in the headcount system. The link will be emailed to clubs and coaches as soon as it becomes available.
